Preface

   Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China, sponsored by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM), and compiled by the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SUTCM), is the reference reflecting the academic advance of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  Thirty-one volumes have been consecutively published since its first publication in 1983. It has been published in two volumes annually since 2003, the administration volume and the academic volume. The content of the academic volume is adapted from the academic progress part in the former yearbook with adjusting some columns. Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China (academic volume), is sponsored by SATCM, compiled by SUTCM, and published by Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Press. The Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China (2013) was published by Shanghai Lexicographical Publishing House.

   The Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China of 2014 (academic volume) includes articles published in TCM journals and presented in TCM congresses in 2013. Editors select and refine items from the list initially recommended by special writers for each column. Professional authors detail each items. The Yearbook is finally published after proofreading by editorsthe editor-in-chief, and the editing committee.

 Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China 2013 (academic volume) consists of paper version and CD–ROM.

   The paper version includes special reprint, special papers, university president forum, academic progress, news and events, and index. The academic progress focuses on and follows up key projects. The contents of theoretical researches largely reflect the experimental studies and their application in clinic practice in accordance with the TCM theories. The contents of clinic specialties emphasize the specific therapies and prescription experience in commonly-encountered and difficult diseases. There are about 850 articles from the projects sponsored by “National 973 Plan”, “National 863 Plan”, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Ministry of Science and Technology and SATCM being cited in the categories of Basic Theories of TCM, Chinese Materia Medica, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, External Medicine, and Gynecology.  The contents of the Yearbook (academic volume) are written in both Chinese and English.

   The CD–ROM includes content indexes of articles of TCM journals 2013, awarded research projects, newly published or reprinted books, and list of TCM journals etc. The content indexes of TCM articles contain 2,000,000 characters with multi–way retrieval function, providing easy access for readers to find the useful TCM literature of 2013.

   Wang Guoqiang, the Vice-Minister of Health China, says, “Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China is the historical recording of TCM career, is the mirror reflecting the status quo of TCM development, and is the starting point of work in future. We need to understand the importance of compiling Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China on such a high plane.” For the benefit of the progress of TCM career and the readers, we will try our best in compiling and publishing Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China (academic volume) in order to reflect the progress of TCM. We hope that the Yearbook would be the friends of the readers.
