Preface

   Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China, sponsored by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM), and compiled by the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SUTCM), is the reference reflecting the academic advance of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  Thirty-three volumes have been consecutively published since its first publication in 1983. The State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine decided to divide the Yearbook into two volumes, being administration volume and academic volume respectively in 2003. The administration volume is compiled by China Publishing House of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the academic volume is compiled by Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China (academic volume) is published by Shanghai Lexicographical Publishing House now.

   The Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China of 2016 (academic volume) includes articles published in TCM journals and presented in TCM conferences in 2015. Editors select and refine items from the list initially recommended by writers. Professional editors, relevant professional editing committee, and experts finalize the items for composition after detailed discussion. The Yearbook is published after proofreading successively by the editorsthe deputy editor-in-chief, the editor-in-chief, and the editing committee.

 Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China 2016 (academic volume) consists of paper version and CD–ROM.

   The paper version includes columns of special reprint, special papers, university president forum, academic achievements, academic progress, events, and index. The appendix includes top 50 journals, top 30 universities or colleges, top 50 medical institutions for citation frequency, and the name list of writers

The academic progress focuses on and follows up key projects. The contents of theoretical researches largely reflect the experimental studies and their application in clinic practice in accordance with the TCM theories. The contents of clinic specialties emphasize the specific therapies and prescription experience in commonly-encountered and difficult diseases. The Yearbook has cited over 3,000 articles, sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China, Ministry of Science and Technology and SATCM, from journals of traditional Chinese medicine.

The Preface and the Contents of the Yearbook 2016 (academic volume) are written in both Chinese and English.

   The CD–ROM includes the newly published specification, principles and standards, the list of award, the study of new ingredients and components of Chinese material medica, the lists of newly published TCM books and the TCM journals, and categorized contents of journal articles. The content indexes of TCM articles contain 2,000,000 characters with multi–way retrieval function, providing easy access for readers to find the useful TCM literature of 2015.

   Wang Guoqiang, the Vice-Minister of Health China, says, “Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China is the historical recording of TCM career, is the mirror reflecting the status quo of TCM development, and is the starting point of work in future. We need to understand the importance of compiling Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China on such a high plane.” The Yearbook is essential for academic inheritance and innovation. It will not only serve the contemporary but also benefit the future. The editors, with down-to-the-earth attitude and full of mission, will improve the compilation quality and promote the academic influence of the Yearbook, which is conducive for policy making, information preservation, and people education.
