Preface
Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China is sponsored by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It used to be Yearbook of Traditional Chinese Medicine published by Shanghai College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1983 and was renamed Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China in 1989. Starting from volume 2003, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China was divided into administration volume and academic volume. The administration volume is compiled by China Press of Traditional Chinese Medicine, while the academic volume is compiled by Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China (academic volume) (hereafter referred to as the Yearbook) focuses on comprehensively, systematically and accurately recording key achievements, academic progress, scientific research and important work progress of TCM through the year, it is a concentrated reflection of the development of TCM.
Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China (Academic volume) (volume 2023) is the 41st volume, mainly based on TCM academic study published in year 2022, with both paper version and web version available. The paper version consists of columns such as Special Reprint, Special Papers, University President Forum, Academic Achievements, Fighting Epidemic, Academic Progress, Events, Index, Appendix, Attached Figures, etc. The web version covers the newly published TCM specifications, principles and standards, the project list of TCM awards, the lists of newly published TCM books and TCM journals, classified catalogue of TCM scholarly journal articles, new compounds and novel skeletons found in Chinese Medicinal Herbs, etc. with authoritative data, complete function, and intensive information.
Since the new era, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core has placed TCM in a more prominent position, promoting TCM reform and development with unprecedented efforts, leading TCM to achieve historic achievements, including the comprehensive strengthening of TCM top-level design and strategic deployment, the significant improvement of TCM service capability, fully demonstration unique advantages and role of TCM in disease prevention and treatment, improved quantity and quality of TCM talent team, breakthroughs of TCM technology innovation, and increasingly active foreign exchanges and cooperation in TCM. Inheriting, innovating and developing TCM is an important part of the socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era and a major event related to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. It is of great significance for adhering to the equal emphasis of TCM and Western medicine, creating a health development model with Chinese characteristics in which TCM and Western medicine complement and coordinate each other, giving full play to the original advantages of TCM, promoting innovation and breakthroughs in China's life sciences, carrying forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture, and enhancing national self-confidence and cultural self-confidence.
The report of the 20th National Congress of the CPC once again emphasizes "promoting the inheritance, innovation and development of TCM", fully reflecting the warm care of CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core for TCM work, and further pointing out the direction and providing fundamental guidance for us to continue promoting the high-quality development of TCM in the new era and journey. In the future, the development of TCM will certainly play a greater role in the new journey of Chinese path to modernization. Guided by National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, supported by Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, assisted by all the editorial members, experts and friends, all staff members of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Yearbook of China (Academic volume) will bear in mind their mission, adhere to the academic culture and spirit formed by more than 40 years of historical accumulation, inherit and innovate by drawing on historical wisdom, grasp the development laws by mastering historical initiatives, and nourish the hearts of generations of TCM practitioners through the "Yearbook”, to enable it to play full role in supporting state affairs upon recording history and foreseeing the future by reviewing the past.
